Slave, Gravity Take Top Honors at 2013 Cosmo Awards
Gravity and 12 Years a Slave were both vying for top honors, and in the end tied for the most wins at the 2013 Cosmique Movie Awards, with five each. And just like at the Oscars, Gravity took home a Best Director trophy for Alfonso Cuaron while Slave was awarded Best Film of 2013.
Top acting awards also mirrored that of the Oscars, except for a Best Actor tie: Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine, and Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club tying with Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave. Supporting acting awards went to Lupita Oyong’o for 12 Years a Slave and Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club. Young acting awards went to Sophie NĂ©lisse for The Book Thief and Tye Sheridan for Mud.
The Lion in Winter, after many years of being nominated, was finally inducted into the Cosmique Movie Awards Best Films of All Time Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame, along with Joan Crawford and first-time nominee Morgan Freeman in the acting categories, and first-time nominees Bette Midler and Bill Murray in the Comedic Acting categories.
The awards were shared across 23 different films this year. In addition to Gravity and Slave's five awards, Star Trek Into Darkness took home four, and Dallas Buyers Club, Frozen, The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Wolf of Wall Street took home two each.
Check out all of the nominees and winners by category or by film.
