- Carol is the most-nominated film of 2015 with 14 nominations, followed by The Martian with 10 nominations and The Danish Girl, The Revenant, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with nine nominations each.
- Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara each received four individual and one ensemble nomination, tying for the most-nominated individuals at the Twelfth Cosmique Movie Awards. They beat out Matt Damon, who received three individual and one ensemble nomination.
- Cate Blanchett is the most-nominated individual in Cosmo history. Prior to this year, she had received 16 individual and 5 ensemble nominations, winning 4 individual and 2 ensemble awards over the years. Her nominations this year brings her total to 20 individual and 6 ensemble nominations.
- Ian McKellen is the most-nominated male performer in Cosmo history, with his two nominations this year bringing him up to 14 individual and 9 ensemble nominations. He’s been nominated for heroes and villains, and a record seven times for Best Supporting Actor, but this year marks the his first Cosmo nomination for a lead acting award as well as his first nomination for a Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame award.
- A total of 92 individuals received Cosmo nominations this year. Of these, 50 of them (48 performers and two directors) received their first nominations ever while 42 have been also been nominated in previous years.
- Of the six nominees for Best Director, four have been nominated before while it is the first nomination for two of them: Tom McCarthy for Spotlight and George Miller for Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom Hooper (The Danish Girl) is the only Best Director nominee to have more than one previous nomination. None of the nominees have won before.
- Seven actors – Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Michael Keaton, Ian McKellen, and Helen Mirren – received Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement nominations this year as well as nominations for awards for 2015 films. This is the largest number of actors to be nominated for Lifetime Achievements in the same year that they were also nominated for other awards.
- Rooney Mara was nominated for both leading and supporting awards for her performance in Carol, reflecting Cosmo voters’ confusion in how to best categorize her role. That has happened several times before in Cosmo history: Richard Gere in Chicago (2002); Ellen Degeneres in Finding Nemo (2003); Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation (2003); Natalie Portman in Closer (2004); and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls (2006). Degeneres, Johansson, and Hudson all won for Supporting Actress.
- Many of the actors nominated for the Worst Performance award are repeat offenders. This is Shailene Woodley’s second nomination for this award, Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler’s third, and Jennifer Lopez’ fourth. Tom Cruise has “won” once before while Adam Sandler has “won” twice. Although this is Gwyneth Paltrow’s first nomination for Worst Performance, she was named Most Overrated Actress of All Time at the first Cosmique Movie Awards.
- All six nominees for Best Actress were nominated for films with single-word titles. This includes Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara for Carol, Brie Larson for Room, Jennifer Lawrence for Joy, Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn, and Sarah Snook for Predestination. This has never happened for any award ever before in the history of the Cosmos. In fact, every award category prior to 2015 had at least two nominees with multi-word titles. (In 2015, Inside Out was the only multi-word nominee for Best Animated Film, the only other time this has even come close to having a category with only single-word nominees.)
- Naomie Harris is the second African American “Bond Girl” to receive a nomination for Actress’ Character You Would Most Like to be Intimate With, which she received for her performance in Spectre. Halle Berry was nominated for and won the award for her performance in Die Another Day in 2002, the year that award was first introduced.
