Winners Announced for the 2018 Cosmo Awards

The winners of the 2018 Cosmique Movie Awards have been announced, and The Favourite seemed to be many voters' favorite, winning Best Film, Best Comedy, Best Actress (Olivia Colman), and Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Weisz).

The Favourite's four awards were the most won by any film this year in a year where voters saw fit to spread out the awards. Bradley Cooper won Best Director for A Star is Born, which also won Best Drama and Best Musical. Rami Malek won Best Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody, which also won Best Soundtrack or Score. Mahershali Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Green Book, which also won Best Historical. Black Panther won three awards (Best Costume/Make-Up, Best Visual Effects, and Best Superhero Film), as did Mary Poppins Returns (Best Fantasy, and Male and Female Cameos for Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury).

After many nominations, A Letter to Three Wives was finally inducted into the Best Films of All Time Hall of Fame. Other inductees were Rita Moreno and James Dean in the Best Actress and Actor Halls of Fame, and Catherine O'Hara and Jack Lemmon for the Best Comedic Actress and Actor Halls of Fame. Lemmon had previously been inducted into the Best Actors Hall of Fame at the 2004 Awards.

Stan Lee was the only person guaranteed a win, as he was naturally postuhmously nominated in all six slots for the Best Stan Lee Cameo Award -- winning, surprisingly, for a film that wasn't from one of his Marvel Comics: Teen Titans Go! To the Movies!

Nominations Announced for 2018 Cosmo Awards

Nominations have been announced for the Cosmique Movie Awards, and Black Panther leads with 17 nominations, followed by The Favourite with 13, A Star is Born (2018) with 11, and BlackKklansman, Roma, and Vice with 8 each.

Stan Lee leads the individual nominations with six, but only because a special one-off Best Stan Lee Cameo of 2018 was created in his honor. He's followed by Chadwick Boseman with three individual nominations, and Christian Bale, Alden Ehrenreich, Michael B. Jordan, Lopita Nyong’o, and Dick Van Dyke with two each.

Black Panther's nominations make it the fourth most-nominated film in Cosmo history, behind Wonder Woman with 27 nominations, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with 26, and The Two Towers with 21.

A total of 98 different films and 102 individuals received one or more nominations at the 2018 Cosmique Movie Awards. You can find the nominees here:

Nominations open for the 2018 Cosmique Movie Awards

The Oscars are over, and now it's your turn to react. Did your favorites win? Were they even nominated? The Cosmique Movie Awards are your chance to react with -- and against -- the other major movie awards. You get to pick the winners...and the nominees.

The 2018 awards categories are mostly unchanged since last year, with one slight tweak. Last year, we decided to set aside the negative categories (Worst Film, Most Over-Rated Film, and Worst Performance) in favor of a handful of one-off, potentially one-time-only awards. Those included Best Cameo, Favorite Female Empowerment Film, and Best Movie Soundtrack.

This year, we're doing the same with one slight adjustment. There were so many great cameos in 2018, we decided to split it into separate Male and Female categories.

In addition, Stan Lee, the famous creator of numerous Marvel comics characters, passed away in 2018. He was known for having cameos in every Marvel film, and last year may have set a record for the most cameos in a calendar year. In his honor, we're creating a one-time-only third cameo award for just Stan Lee Cameos. Yes, that's right, three cameo awards: Best Female Cameo, Best Non-Stan Lee Male Cameo, and Best Stan Lee Cameo.

(Whatever, you knew we were ridiculous years ago.)

Nomination Resources

We have created a list of film eligible for the 2018 Cosmique Movie Awards. This is based on the list of films eligible for the Academy Awards, which we have supplemented with additional films that were only on the film festival circuit before being available on DVD or streaming.

We have also created a "buzzworthy" list of potential nominees. This is based on films that received nominations at similar awards, or were on Gold Derby critics' list of predicted nominees, supplemented with our own thoughts. These are only intended as ideas to get your wheels turning. Feel free to nominate any eligible film or performance that strikes your fancy.

Nomination Rules

Lifetime Achievement films are only open to films released in 2017 or prior (in other words, not films eligible for regular awards in the current or future award years).
Lifetime Achievement nominees cannot be previous winners of the same award, as they are already in the Hall of Fame.
For the other categories, films must have been theatrically released in 2018 or were not available to general theater-goers before 2018 (such as a 2017 film festival movie that came out on DVD in 2018).
For each award, you may nominate up to six different films or performances. You may not make the same nomination more than once in the same category.
For each award, you have the option of giving a Power Vote to one of your nominees. This gives it extra weight, the same as if you voted for it twice. Passion counts, but not too much.
Nominations are due by midnight PDT on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

The following films have been deemed eligible for nomination in the 2018 Cosmique Movie Awards.

This list was created by taking the list of films eligible for the Oscars (generally, films with a Los Angeles theatrical showing for at least seven consecutive days in the calendar year) and supplementing with additional films that met our own more relaxed criteria, even if they didn't meet the Academy's. These are generally films that were only released in film festivals that we felt Cosmo voters had an opportunity to see due to subsequent DVD or streaming release in the 2018 calendar year.
